Capsule wardrobes are an interesting concept.
Are you one of those people who attempt to get ready for work in the morning and end up with a jumble of clothes everywhere?
Can you never decide what you want to wear and end up wearing the same items again and again?
If you answered yes to the above questions, a capsule wardrobe may be just what you need to get sorted!
What is a capsule wardrobe?
Put concisely, a capsule wardrobe is a small wardrobe that only contains approximately 30-40 very versatile pieces of clothing you love to wear.
Take a moment to think about your own wardrobe. Is it bursting at the seams with clothes you hardly or never wear? Or clothes you simple don’t like?
A capsule wardrobe reduces the dilemma of what to wear by offering you a small selection of clothing items that all mix and match.
These items are designed to last you three months, or approximately one season. When this time is up, you get to re-evaluate your wardrobe and consider what items should be rotated in and out of your selection.
Will it really help me?
A capsule wardrobe is about being happy with less. Taking on a minimalistic approach to life and finding ease and contentment.
By living with a smaller number of clothes you naturally de-clutter your life, physically and mentally. A capsule wardrobe saves you time in the morning and reduces the stress that is often associated with choosing your outfit for the day.
You can also save generous amounts of time and money, as you only need to shop for clothes every three months.
What items should I keep?
To break it down, let’s work from your feet up.
This is only a recommendation and your capsule wardrobe would ultimately depend upon what you love to wear.
9 pairs of shoes. Three pairs of flats, three heels and three pairs of boots.
9 bottoms. Three jeans/pants, three skirts and three pairs of shorts.
15 tops. Three jumpers, three shirts, three t-shirts, three tank tops and three cardigans.
4 dresses or coats depending on the season.
4 accessories such as scarves or handbags.
Are 30-40 items really enough clothes?
If you make careful selections 30-40 items can take you from work, to weekends, to nights out with ease.
By filling your wardrobe only with clothes you love to wear (and favour anyway), you’ll start to notice that yes, you can dress yourself with fewer options.
It’s about being creative and mixing and matching within a minimalistic approach. And if it de-clutters your life along the way, it can’t be that bad, right?
